Through the Family Medicine Academy and the NHG Family Medicine Residency Programme, NHG Polyclinics plays an integral role in the delivery of primary care training at medical undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
Clinical Fellowship Training Programme in Family Medicine and Population Health (3-12 Months)
Accredited by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC), the objectives of the programme are:
- To advance the clinical fellow's knowledge and clinical expertise in the following areas
- chronic disease management,
- eldercare,
- women’s and child health and
- mental health in a primary care setting.
- To provide opportunity to manage complex multimorbidity with multidisciplinary nursing and allied health support in primary care.
- To provide experiences to understand psychosocial complexity and integrate care across the health and social sectors.
- To provide clinical experience to integrate care vertically across primary and tertiary care as well as horizontally within primary and community settings.
- Attain exposure to practicing in a team based primary care environment to understand the interprofessional competencies of communication, role clarity and teamwork.
- Attain exposure to the broader community medicine landscape where care delivery is delivered in various settings of the patient's home or nursing homes.
- Attain experience in planning and operationalising preventive health interventions for the broader population and community.
- To provide peer teaching and learning opportunities during institution or clinic based clinical teaching sessions.

Family Medicine Electives for Medical Students Enrolled in Overseas Medical Schools
NHG Polyclinics welcomes applications for elective medical postings from overseas medical students who wish to observe and gain insights into clinical practices at the primary care level. You will have a chance to experience the following:
- Observe symptom based approach consultation process for acute conditions
- Observe a multidisciplinary approach to chronic disease management in primary care
- Learn communication and clinical examination skills;
- Understand the role of family physicians coordinating care for patient through the entire healthcare continuum first hand;
- Appreciate the different roles of various members within the healthcare team in primary care.
