Primary Care Academy (PCA) is a one-stop, regional training centre catering to the training needs and skills upgrading of primary care doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and ancillary staff in primary care. We also provide informative and interactive health talks and workshops for organizations and the public as well as courses for the community. PCA also aim to be a platform for sharing of expertise and capacity building among community healthcare practitioners & leaders in ASEAN and the surrounding region.

General Practitioner’s Assistant Courses


The General Practitioner's (GP) Assistant Course is designed specifically to prepare anyone who is interested in working in a GP clinic and need to acquire the required skills. The course is also intended to raise the level of service provided by the GP clinics to the public.

The course is designed to consist of three levels, Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced. A participant without prior experience is advised to start from the Foundational modules. However, a participant who has adequate exposure and experience working in a GP clinic could enroll from Intermediate and progress to the Advanced level as required.

1. GP Assistant Advanced Course
Date: 12 & 13 January 2017
Time: 1.30pm to 5.00pm
Cost: $380 (excluding GST)

The course covers:
- Basic understanding on the management of chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, hypertension and asthma
- Administration of medication via nebulizer and inhaler
- Use of meter dosed inhaler (MDI), spacer, dry powder inhaler, (Turbuhaler and Accuhaler)
- 12 Lead ECG
- Overview of the use, common side effects, precautions and active ingredients of medication used to treat common medical conditions e.g URTI, Pain, Infection, Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus


CPR+AED Course


The CPR + AED course is designed to teach lay people the lifesaving skills of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in adults.

This course teaches participants to recognize and treat emergencies such as cardiac arrest and conscious adult airway obstruction. This course is suitable for non-healthcare professionals and the general public.

Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification / Recertification


Coronary or heart disease is a common cause of death in Singapore. Public education and training are crucial in reducing "sudden death" because the majority of these deaths occur out of hospital. One of the most startling ideas of modern medicine is that "sudden death" can be reversed. The actions taken during the first few minutes of an emergency are critical to the victim's survival.

Course Objectives

The BCLS training course equips participants with the skills for resuscitating the collapsed adult and infant victims. Successful candidates will be awarded with a BCLS certificate accredited by National Resuscitation Council with 2-year validity.

The course is designed for those who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements.
