The General Practitioner (GP) Assistants' Course is designed specifically to prepare anyone who is interested in working in a GP clinic or relevant healthcare setting but are worried that they do not have the required skills.
The GP Assistants’ Course – Basic & Advanced Level covers fundamental concepts and skills required for a range of clinical tasks from measurement of basic health parameters, to understanding of common chronic disease processes and more. A participant without prior experience is advised to start from the Basic level. However, a participant who has adequate exposure and experience working in a GP clinic could enrol and progress directly to the Advanced level.

1) GP Assistant's Course - Basic Level Date: 2,3 & 4 June 2021 Time: 1.30pm to 5.00pm Full Course Fee: $527.51 (incl. gst) | with NSA funding: $133.11 (incl. gst) | SkillsFuture Credit claimable
The course covers: - Concept of effective communication - Hands-on session for the measurement of basic health parameters (body temperature, height & weight , BMI, BP) - Common medical terminologies used in GP clinics - Infection control guidelines - Principles of proper sterilization procedure - Principles of proper storage and dispensing drugs
1) GP Assistant's Course - Advanced Level Date: 27, 28, 29 & 30 September 2021 Time: 1.30pm to 5.00pm Full Course Fee: $697.64 (incl. gst) | with NSA funding: $176.04 (incl. gst)
The course covers: - Communication with 'difficult' customer - Understand chronic conditions - Techniques of using different types of inhalers (e.g.meter dose inhalers and power dose inhalers) - Understand the disease process, causes, risk factors & treatment (emphasis on lifestyle modification & prevention) - Blood glucose reading (using automated machine) - Medical administration, medication safety and drug groups - Correct placement of 12 leads ECG
