Be our Volunteer

At National Healthcare Group Polyclinics (NHGP), we believe in shared social responsibility and contributing back to society. We hope to spread this spirit of giving among the community we serve.

How you can help

The Guiding Hands volunteer programme offers a range of volunteering opportunities that you can choose from. You, as our volunteer, will not only offer assistance and guidance to our patients in the clinics. You will also be an advocate of healthy living, sharing healthy lifestyle behaviours and emotions with our patients.

Falls Ambassador

One of the areas you could help in is preventing and reducing falls among the elderly in the polyclinics and in community!

Falls are a common problem among the elderly over the age of 65. Findings show that, among the community dwelling elderly, 28% – 35% falls each year. As NHGP attends to many elderly patients with multiple comorbidities, it presents an opportunity for us to empower our elderly patients and older members in the community with tips on how to prevent falls.

Join us as a Falls Ambassador and you will gain more knowledge and learn new skills about identifying fall risks and preventing falls in the community. In addition to sharing tips with the elderly on falls prevention, you may also help them navigate their way around the clinics and make a positive difference to their visits.

Currently this volunteer opportunity is available at Toa Payoh and Hougang Polyclinics.

Ageing-in-Place Studio Docent

You could play a vital role by helping visitors better understand the importance of designing a home that will help reduce the occurrence of falls!

Research has shown that the most effective interventions to prevent falls are multifactorial, one being home modification. Our Ageing-in-Place (AIP) Studio – a replica of a studio apartment – showcases a variety of practical solutions and tips that help the elderly or persons with fall risks live more safely and independently in the home setting.

Your involvement as an AIP docent helps our communities and patients better understand and plan strategic home modifications. Once you have undergone training, you can also help conduct educational tours at the AIP Studio for patients, caregivers and visitors of the polyclinic.

Currently this volunteer opportunity is available at Toa Payoh Polyclinic.
