Be our Volunteer

At National Healthcare Group Polyclinics (NHGP), we believe in shared social responsibility and contributing back to society. We hope to spread this spirit of giving among the community we serve.

Why We Involve Volunteers

Volunteers are essential in helping NHGP achieve its vision “To be the leading health-promoting institution that helps advance family medicine and transform primary healthcare in Singapore.” As volunteers, you complement our employees, add diversity to NHGP, and bring in fresh perspectives in service provision.

Due to the high patient volume in our polyclinics, we face a challenging task of providing intensive surveillance of patients at risk of falling. In our ageing society, we also aim to raise awareness in preventive care.

Your involvement as a volunteer not only helps make the polyclinic a safer place, but you will also be empowered to advocate healthy living to your family and community.

Available Volunteering Opportunities

The Guiding Hands Volunteer Programme offers you opportunities to assist and guide our patients as they navigate through the various service points and use the self-help systems in the polyclinics. You will also be an advocate of healthy living, sharing healthy lifestyle behaviours and benefits with our patients.

Fall Prevention Advocates

One of the areas you could help in is preventing and reducing falls among the elderly in the polyclinics and in the community!

Falls are a common problem among the elderly over the age of 65. Findings show that 28% – 35% of elderly experience falls each year. As NHGP attends to many elderly patients with multiple medical conditions, volunteers could help our elderly patients and older members in the community with tips on how to prevent falls.

Join us as a Fall Prevention Advocate and you will gain more knowledge and learn new skills about identifying fall risks and preventing falls in the community. In addition to sharing tips with the elderly on falls prevention, you can also help them navigate their way around the polyclinics and guide them in using self-help systems, hence making a positive difference to their visits.

Some volunteers at Toa Payoh Polyclinic may be selected to undergo training to conduct tours at our Ageing-in-Place (AIP) Studio – a replica of a studio apartment. It showcases a variety of practical solutions and tips that help the elderly or persons with fall risks live more safely and independently in the home setting. Research has shown that most effective interventions to prevent falls are multifactorial, one being home modification. Therefore, you can play a vital role in educating our patients and/or their caregivers on the importance of designing a home that will help reduce the occurrence of falls!

This volunteer opportunity is available at all NHGP Polyclinics (AIP Studio tours only at Toa Payoh Polyclinic).

Health Advocates

Did you know that 1 in every 4 Singaporeans, aged 40 years and above have at least one of the following conditions: Diabetes, High blood pressure, High blood cholesterol, or Stroke?

These chronic conditions do not show obvious symptoms in the early stages. This is why we need to take charge of our health, go for regular screening to possibly detect these conditions and manage them early. If you believe that prevention is better than cure and would like to share this message with your fellow residents, we want you!

Join us as Health Advocates, attend our training and play an integral role in encouraging positive health behaviors  among our patients. From our training, learn about the importance of screening, exercise and nutrition to share with your family, friends and our NHGP patients.

This volunteer opportunity is available at all NHG polyclinics.
