Care for the Elderly Course (for the public)

Description: 

Our Primary Care Academy (PCA) offers a training programme conducted by experienced registered nurses to equip you and your caregiver with the basic skills in caring for the elderly.If you are a caregiver or employer of a caregiver, this training programme will enhance your ability and improve your caregiver’s skills in providing excellent care to your loved ones.


Course Outline (4 Modules):

1. Hygiene & Grooming
- Cleaning of mouth and dentures
- Bed Bathing
- Assisted Bath
- Dressing and Grooming
- Changing of bedlinen
- Prevention of pressure sores
- Foot Care

2. Waste Handling
- Use of diapers
- Use of urinals and bedpans
- Care of urine bag

3. Safety
- Safe lifting, positioning and turning
- Safe use of mobility aids
- Falls precautions and prevention of accidents
- Safe administration of medication

4. Feeding
- Preparation of feeds
- Types of feeds
- Feeding tips
- Tube feeding

Time*:

10am to 4pm

Fees:

 $110 (excluding GST) without Caregivers Training Grant

$10 (excluding GST), co-payment with Caregiver Training Grant

Eligible participants may apply to attend the course with the Caregiver Training Grant.

General Practitioners' Assistant Course (for the public)

Description: 

The General Practitioner's (GP) Assistant Course is designed specifically to prepare anyone who is interested in working in a GP clinic but are worried that they do not have the required skills.

Secondly, the course is also intended to raise the level of service provided by the GP clinic to the public. The course is designed to consist of three levels, Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced. A participant without prior experience is advised to start from the Foundational modules. However, a participant who has adequate exposure and experience working in a GP clinic could enrol from Intermediate and progress to the Advanced level as required.

Details:

1) GP Assistant Foundational Course
Date: 10 & 15 May 2012
Time: 1.30pm to 5pm (3.5 hrs)
Cost: $180 (excluding GST)

The course covers:
An overview of Healthcare Organisation in Singapore
Role of a Clinic Assistant
Fundamental concepts of Patient Care delivery
Basic communication skills and delivery
Basic measurement skills (height, weight and BMI calculation)
Fundamentals of infection control in a clinic setting
Basics on how medication works and avoiding medication errors

2) GP Assistant Intermediate Course
Date: 14 & 28 August 2012
Time: 1.30pm to 5pm
Cost: $320 (excluding GST)

The course covers:
Use of Medical Terminology at work
Communication between Healthcare Professionals and Patients
Principles of proper disinfection, decontamination, sterilization including autoclaving in a clinic environment
Drug storage, management, safety and error prevention
Blood glucose monitoring

3) GP Assistant Advanced Course
Date: 16 & 17 January 2013
Time: 1.30pm to 5pm
Cost: $380 (excluding GST)

The course covers:
Overview of the use, common side effects, precautions and active ingredients of medication used to treat common medical conditions e.g. Upper Respiratory Tract Infection (URTI), Pain, Infection, Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus. You will be trained to perform common clinic procedures e.g. 12 Lead ECG, application of eye ointment, ear drops, nasal spray, nebulizer via facemask and spacer device.
